Dr. Sayanan Srishanmuganathan


Sayan grew up in London and moved to Melbourne in 2012. He qualified as a doctor with an additional Management degree from Imperial College School of Medicine in London in 2007. Having completed his specialist training in General Practice in London, Sayan has been working within the Australian healthcare system as a GP for the past 4 years now and enjoys it immensely. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and is an accredited GP Supervisor (EVGPT) for doctors in training. As an Honorary Clinical Lecturer of the University of Melbourne, Sayan is actively involved in teaching medical students at our practice too. Sayan has specialist interests in mental health, aged care and chronic disease management. He believes in practising medicine with a holistic approach and ensuring continuity of care for all his patients. He also forms a core part of the management team at Balwyn Central Medical. Outside of work, Sayan enjoys an active lifestyle through regular exercise and yoga and is a keen traveller too.

Dr. Avinash Kamale


Avi is a fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He has vast Victorian hospital experience in areas of Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Surgery and Orthopaedics. He graduated in 1982 in India and went on to pursue various medical qualifications in England and Australia. Avi’s areas of interest include General Family Health, Travel Medicine, Dermatology encompassing skin cancers, mole checks and allergies. He can perform minor surgical procedures on site including skin mole removals.

Dr. Siavash Saadatian

MD, AMC (Grad)

Sia Graduated from medical school in Iran in 2007. He worked in multiple clinical settings both in urban and rural areas of Iran before moving to Australia in 2013. Since then, Sia has been working in the Australian General Practice setting with a strong focus on providing compassionate and comprehensive patient care. Apart from English, Sia can speak fluent Farsi too. His areas of interest are mental health, skin cancer, children’s health and chronic disease management (in particular diabetes).

Dr. Shamistra Barathan


Shami has been practising medicine for 16 years. She is a graduate of the Imperial College School of Medicine in London, and worked in the United Kingdom and New Zealand before settling here in Melbourne with her husband. She has an interest in women's health and offers family planning services including implanon insertion. Her passion lies in Integrative Medicine which takes a holistic approach towards improving your health. Being able to understand both sides of the health coin, namely conventional and holistic therapies, allows Shami to blend the best of both worlds to bring balance to your life and help you make the right choices when it comes to your health and well being. She is a member of the Australian College of Nutrition and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM), which enables her to constantly upgrade her skills and be part of a community of practitioners who are passionate about integrative medicine. She practises mindfulness meditation daily, loves yoga, playing the piano, mountaineering and is an avid traveller.

Dr. Martin Hodgson

MBBS, GradDipOccH, DipDHM

Martin has been a doctor for more than 30 years & hopes he can help with most things on a couple of evenings per week. He has a lot of experience with sports medicine and with wound care.

Dr. Nisha Patel


Nisha graduated from medical school in London in 2008. She completed her training as a General Practitioner at Kings College Hospital, London, UK in 2014. She has experience working as GP in the community, Emergency Department and School settings. She moved to Melbourne in 2016. Prior to working in General Practice; she completed a year’s specialist training in Paediatrics. She has also attained additional Diplomas in Childrens’ Health, Women’s Health and Sexual Health. She enjoys all aspects of General Practice but her particular interests include, Mental health, Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Sexual health. Outside of medicine she enjoys spending time with her family, DIY and travelling.

Dr. Hein Yar "Richard" Zar


Richard obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Medicine Mandalay, Myanmar in 2010 and has worked as a General Practitioner and Medical Officer. He continued practising medicine in Perth and moved to Melbourne in late 2016. He has an interest in family medicine and chronic disease management. He enjoys keeping fit by working out regularly and enjoy traveling to new places.

Dr. Roy Othman


Roy is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He undertook his undergraduate medical training at University of Otago, New Zealand. The experience and knowledge he gained in various disciplines of medicine whist working at the hospital has given him an advantage in General Practice. He is enjoying every aspect of traditional General Practice with special interest in preventative health, chronic care management, Men’s health, and performing minor skin lesion excisions. He is also involved in the medical student teaching program with the University of Melbourne, supervising and teaching undergraduate medical students at the clinic. He enjoys spending time with his young and active family, playing tennis and guitar. Roy also speaks Malay/Bahasa Indonesian.

Dr. Nathan Engel


Nathan has recently started working with us this August in his transition from hospital medicine to general practice. After graduating in 2013, he spent the first two years of his career working in a country hospital prior to moving to the northern suburbs of Melbourne to continue his hospital experience and start work in general practice. He has a particular interest in pediatric medicine for which he holds additional qualifications. Nathan is also interested in minor procedural and cosmetic work, such as removal of skin growths, biopsies, ingrown toenail removal, keloid scar injections and liquid nitrogen therapy. Nathan also enjoys looking after patients with chronic pain or illness as well as helping with weight loss and healthy living.

Dr. Farzin Torabi

M.D, AMC (Grad)

Farzin grew up in Iran and moved to Melbourne in 2011. He completed his Medical Schooling from Iran in 2002 and has overseas experience in General Practice and Emergency Department for more than 10 years. After moving to Australia he has been working as a General Practitioner from last 6 years now. Apart from English, he can speak Persian, Azerbaijani, and Turkish too. Farzin has special interests in Chronic Disease Management (COPD, Asthma, Diabetes, and CHF), skin care, biopsy and skin lesions excision, Children's Health and Aged Care.
